Southern Accents Purchases Large Lot of Salvage in Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 21, 2016 – Garlan Gudger, owner of Southern Accents Architectural Salvage in Cullman, Ala., recently purchased a large quantity of architectural salvage and other vintage items stored in a warehouse on Front Street in Philadelphia.
“We were excited as we rummaged through the warehouse and loaded our plunder on the back of three large moving trucks,” Gudger said. “We arrived back in Cullman on a Monday and worked all week to unload the trucks and sort through our inventory. Our guys have made three trips so far and each time have returned with several truckloads of architectural antiques.”
While they don’t have the history on every piece, one item that Gudger said he is excited about is a bell that supposedly was used in the ring at a gym where Joe Frazier trained. Gudger is trying to find out more about this item so that he can document its history.
“We also brought back some beautiful doors, a lot of lighting, a rare set of large iron corbels, beautiful antique cabinet hardware, boxes of figural tiles, and a large amount of iron industrial gears in all sizes that are really cool,” Gudger said. “I hate to say that there's a little bit of everything, but there's a little bit of everything.”
Other items in the warehouse include spindles and stair railing, wainscoting, decorative wrought iron pieces, carved mantels, matching doorknob sets, cabinet knobs and hardware, windows, and more.
Gudger did not want to reveal the seller’s identity without their permission, nor could it be independently confirmed at deadline.
