ATLANTA, Ga. – Inventory at Metropolitan Artifacts, an architectural antiques store in Atlanta
that’s been in business for 30-plus years, is for sale as the business’ owner is retiring.
Bruce Cusmano, Metropolitan Artifacts’ owner, said his preference is to sell the inventory of American and French architectural antiques all together to one buyer. Cusmano did not disclose an asking price, saying he’d rather talk to people face-to-face regarding price. The approximately 28,000-square-foot building at 4783 Peachtree Road in Atlanta is also for sale.
Metropolitan Artifacts’ website lists their inventory categories as doors, gates, lighting, bronzes and statuary, garden, door hardware, and iron balconies.
“I’ve got a very impressive inventory,” Cusmano said. “If someone’s looking to buy 10 to 12 40-foot containers from France, all in one spot, this is the spot to do it. I have I have over 300 entry doors from France. They’re all high-caliber. There’s no shabby chic stuff. There are no doors I paid $20 for. I’ve been to places that advertise they have 1,200 doors and you get there and they have probably 100 closet doors. That’s not what I am. I’m not being snooty about it – I just don’t want to mislead anybody. I have a lot of wasted time with people that they think they are going to steal something.”
Cusmano said he is not advertising the business as being for sale, nor is he interested in selling the inventory at auction if a buyer isn’t found. “It’s [the sale] word-of-mouth,” Cusmano said. “Most people that I know in the business know that I’m selling – the major people.”
Cusman said he’d like to sell the inventory within the next six months. “I’m 70 years old, I’m retiring, and I’ve been retiring for 10 years. I’ve just never really gotten serious about it and now I’m serious.”
After retiring, Cusmano said he’ll probably continue dabbling in the industry.
“I’ll probably end up buying for a couple dealers in France because I go to France five times a year,” Cusmano explained.
“My inventory is not only French, it’s Parisian – high quality,” he added.
